Open Artist Session with Sandie Shaw
We were proud to announce that Sandie Shaw was going to host the fourth FAC Open Artist Session, in association with ethical promoter, Success Express and Songwriting Magazine, on 30th April.
Sandie was the most successful British girl singer of the 60’s, after she was discovered by The Roulettes’ Adam Faith. She had her first number one single at 17 years old and two more under her belt by the time she was 20. The first artist to sing behind the Iron Curtain and the first Brit to win the Eurovision, Sandie has been a pioneer throughout her entire career.
Sandie Shaw is currently celebrating 50 years as an international recording artist. She has recorded over 250 tracks in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. Starting out at 17 she was the UK's biggest selling female artist of the Sixties and was part of the onslaught of British Music on the world. Always considered edgy and cool she drove an independent path through the burgeoning music industry, producing and financing all her work - not only the music, but fashion, styling, tour managing, and PR. She even wrote her own seminal TV series - the 'Sandie Shaw Supplement' for BBC.
Disappearing in the 70's for a 'rest' Sandie re-emerged to everyone's surprise in the 80's at the behest of The Smiths - Morrissey and Johnny, declaring themselves as avid fans.Following this collaboration she wrote a book - The World At My Feet. She then studied Psychotherapy at Oxford and London Universities, founding the Arts Clinic in 1996 to look after the mental well-being of members of the creative industries. In 2009 she became a director of FAC, then 5 years ago replaced David Rowntree of Blur as Chair, joined by Co-Chairs Nick Mason and Ed Obrien. She still sings as a "hobby", recently featuring on a Neil Davidge (Massive Attack producer) track, 'Riot Pictures'. Currently as well as championing future artists' and fighting for artists' rights for FAC, and managing the Arts Clinic, Sandie is pursuing her interest in land development, architecture and design.
