FAC & MMF Update in Brighton

The FAC and MMF gathered in Brighton last week to give an update on our activities this year. Artist education is playing a big part in FAC plans this summer, with several Artist led programmes in the pipeline.

Additionally, European lobbying activity has increased with numerous events in Brussels and Strasbourg over the last few months to ensure that the Artists’ voice is getting louder in that arena. Along with five other Artist Rights’ Organisations, the FAC formed the International Artist Organisation.

The IAO today released a statement in response the IMMF letter regarding the leaking of the Sony-Spotify contract. Whilst the letter highlighted the issues present in licensing agreements including upfront advances and free ads, the IAO felt that details of action required based on these discoveries should be outlined. Read the full IAO statement.

The Fair Internet Campaign has also been launched, which encompasses both featured and non-featured artists from the audio and audio-visual spheres and wants to ensure commitment to fair remuneration for the commercial exploitation of their creative works on the internet.

The FAC has begun collecting Artist videos in support of this, which will convince MEP’s to commit to fair remuneration. Please take the time to film your own two minute statement and submit it to us. Watch  IAO Treasurer and founding member of Spanish band Nacha Pop, Nacho Garcia Vega’s video statement.
