FAC Insights: Hello To Normal Land by Rich Legate (Episode 2)
FAC Insights is a forum for us to showcase and share long form pieces looking at various parts of the music industry and the society that shapes it. Pieces take the form of videos, interviews, discussions, articles and more. This week we are delighted to share this very special episode of the Hello to Normal Land series by Rich Legate from Attitude is Everything(AiE).
In 2020 FAC and AiE launched a strategic partnership to work towards ensuring that the rights and interests of Deaf and disabled artists are fairly represented within the music industry. As part of this partnership, Hello To Normal Land was created - a series of short conversations with artists from AiE’s Next Stage initiative, exclusively for FAC Insights.
In this second edition Rich checks in with Howard Doupe - Southport based songwriter and musician who has begun 2021 with a decisive step forward. His band Bobhowla released their debut album on 6th of February, recorded and produced by Rod Jones of Idlewild. The record has allowed Howard to explore and open up about his lived experience of blood disorder Haemophilia.
As an artist in Attitude is Everything's Next Stage network, Howard is passionate about being part of an accessible music industry for artists: "Having a blood disorder is certainly something quite unique within the spectrum of disability, let alone the arts world. I’m yet to encounter ANYONE in the industry who has even attempted to navigate their way through such physically-gruelling challenges whilst managing such an illness."
Bobhowla's debut album 'Everything's Wrong, But It's Alright' is available to listen to now.
