FAC Insights: Hello To Normal Land by Rich Legate (Episode 4)
FAC Insights is a forum for us to showcase and share long form pieces looking at various parts of the music industry and the society that shapes it. Pieces take the form of videos, interviews, discussions, articles and more. This week we are delighted to share this last episode of the Hello to Normal Land series by Rich Legate from Attitude is Everything(AiE).
In 2020 FAC and AiE launched a strategic partnership to work towards ensuring that the rights and interests of Deaf and disabled artists are fairly represented within the music industry. As part of this partnership, Hello To Normal Land was created - a series of short conversations with artists from AiE’s Next Stage initiative, exclusively for FAC Insights.
In this fourth edition Rich checks in with Robin Jax - a musician based in Birmingham, UK. He has made several recordings under the alias RobinPlaysChords, supported the likes of Purple Pilgrims, Alabaster dePlume, Thomas Truax and Madonnatron, had roles in multi-disciplinary shows by Room Art and Spectra Arts Company, sang in a choir alongside Wolfgang Buttress' BE Music (and 50,000 bees) in Coventry Cathedral, launched the "transatlantic Autistic duo" The Companions with musician/author Amber Bird, founded the neurodiversity-focused record label Tiergarten Records and made guest contributions to music by The Shining Tongues, the project of The Infinite Three's Dan Knowler - a relatively hyperactive burst of activity for someone whose studio debut "Teardrop Girl-Star LP" took six years to complete. Robin has been interviewed by The Guardian relating to experiences of access for autistic people within the music industry, and is affiliated with Attitude is Everything's Next Stage artist programme.
