The voluntary UK Code of Good Practice on Transparency in Music Streaming has come into force
The voluntary UK Code of Good Practice on Transparency in Music Streaming, announced in January this year, has come into force!
The Code is part of the ongoing economics of streaming work and is the result of the government bringing the industry together to agree on some minimum standards.
As per the Code, artists and other music makers should have a direct contact at their labels, distributors, and publishers to obtain clear information on how they are paid.
Whilst the activation of the Code is a significant milestone in the UK music industry's commitment to improving transparency around licensing and royalties related to music streaming, it is important that music makers utilise the code to ensure they are aware how they are being paid.
The IPO will continue to engage with the industry to implement the Code, with a formal evaluation of its impact set for 2026.
FAC members can contact us to raise any concerns or complaints if their partners are not complying with the code, via info@thefac.org.
