Voting now open: 2020 PPL Performer Director elections

What are APM & Performer Director elections?

PPL’s Annual Performer Meeting (APM) reports on PPL’s activities and performance over the past year on behalf of the performers PPL represents. It also includes the election of Performer Directors to sit on PPL’s main board and dedicated Performer Board.

This year the APM will take place as a shorter, online-only meeting via Zoom at 16:00 on Wednesday 25 November 2020. As usual, the APM is a meeting for eligible performers. This means performers who are registered with PPL and who have received any UK or international performer payment from PPL during either or both of the two previous financial years (so during 2018 and/or 2019, for this year’s APM). Two Performer Directors will be elected at this year’s APM. The deadline to submit candidates for nomination is now closed.

This year the FAC is supporting campaigns for the PPL Performer Board elections from both FAC  founder and Artist-in Residence, David Rowntree (Blur) and FAC BEAT Board member and artist, Lauren Rozwadowski.  We encourage other performers to vote for them to ensure that the artist voice remains strongly represented.

Lauren Rozwadowski: "My unique perspective, experiences and qualifications make me a valuable resource, one that will positively serve the PPL Board and performer members. I am a singer, songwriter, performer and have worked in the music business for over a decade. I currently work at Warner Music UK, and previously at PPL in their member services team which has given me a strong understanding of the organisation as a whole. I am also on the FAC BEAT Board, a younger advisory Board to the FAC which has provided a new generation of artists and performers a voice."

Lauren is also a life and success coach and a practitioner in neuro-linguistic programming, emotional freedom techniques, TIME techniques and hypnotherapy and is the founder of Chord Commerce. Combining her training, industry knowledge and experience Lauren helps music creatives (and also women in music) discover their confident, empowered and commercial mindsets to better navigate the music business and take ownership of the vision for their lives.

David Rowntree: "This is a crunch time for many performers. The perfect storm of lockdown closures and Brexit uncertainties have left the music industry struggling to divide a shrinking pot. It’s vital that performers, upon whose shoulders the entire industry rests, are not left last in line. Because historically that is exactly what has happened, every time. Many performers work under agreements whose principles date from the 1960s. In the move to CD’s then digital downloads and now to streaming, every time performers have seen their share of the revenue shrink. But PPL has bucked this trend. First under Fran Nevrkla, now under Peter Leathem the organisation has pushed back against powerful corporate interests to try and ensure a level playing field for performers. It’s vital that this good work continues; I want to make sure it does, but I need your help. I’m a professional performer. I’m the drummer in Blur and a film and TV composer. I’ve been a PPL main board attendee, so I know how the organisation works. I’m a founder and board member of the Featured Artist’s Coalition. I have the time and the energy to keep things moving in the right direction."
